An ex-convict, Yekini Opeyemi, has been arrested by operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State Police Command for being in possession of two suspected stolen 2.8 KVA generators.
The suspect, aged 35, and said to be working as a guard at Ojota New Garage, was arrested at about 4a.m. near Odo-Iya Alaro, Ojota while in company of others (now at large) trying to load one Firman and one Tigmax generator, 2.8 KVA into a Volkswagens Golf car.
The police image maker in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said that the driver of the Golf car drove off on sighting police officers, leaving Yekini behind.
“Investigation revealed that Yekini, who arrived Lagos last week, was employed as a security guard at Ojota New Garage.
“When accosted, Yekini, who has been imprisoned on four different occasions over separate incidents, could not give any satisfactory explanation about the generators,” the PPRO stated.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, commended the RRS Commander, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, and directed the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further investigation and prosecution.
