‎Abuja – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced the enforcement of a ban on vehicles with tinted windows and covered number plates, impounding more than 30 vehicles in the process.
‎
‎The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed, announced the development on Friday while addressing journalists in Abuja.
‎
‎According to him, the enforcement exercise follows directives aimed at tackling insecurity and curbing the use of vehicles for criminal activities within the territory.
‎
‎Muhammed said investigations by the police had revealed that vehicles with tinted windows and concealed number plates were frequently used by criminal elements to evade identification and detection.
‎
‎He noted that the ban was introduced in the interest of public safety and warned that violators would face prosecution.
‎
‎“The use of tinted vehicles and covered number plates poses a serious security challenge because they are often used to conceal the identities of individuals involved in criminal activities,” he said.
‎
‎The police commissioner disclosed that over 30 vehicles had already been impounded since the commencement of the enforcement exercise.
‎
‎He appealed to residents of the FCT to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by complying with the directive and ensuring their vehicles meet legal requirements.
‎
‎Muhammed also announced the arrest of suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in criminal operations within the Federal Capital Territory, assuring residents that the command remained committed to protecting lives and property.
‎
‎The renewed enforcement comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen crime prevention measures and enhance public safety across Abuja.
