Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed 2,500 food packs to vulnerable residents across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Edo State, as part of efforts to tackle hunger and strengthen food security.
The intervention, carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank initiative, took place at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
Speaking at the event, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative was designed not only to provide immediate food relief but also to strengthen the resilience and wellbeing of families.
Nwagboh said the distribution was part of the bank’s broader commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in areas where it operates.
“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” he said.
He added that the intervention supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
According to him, Fidelity Bank currently distributes 10,000 food packs every month through the Fidelity Food Bank programme, in partnership with 19 organisations across the country.
The Edo State Government commended the bank for extending the initiative to residents of Uromi.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, who represented Governor Monday Okpebholo at the event, said the gesture demonstrated the important role corporate organisations could play in supporting communities.
“At a time like this, when family needs come first, this act of kindness demonstrates that corporate organisations have a vital role to play in the wellbeing of our communities,” Uwangue said.
He thanked Fidelity Bank for its intervention and urged other corporate organisations to emulate the gesture by supporting communities where they operate.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the bank and its partners, saying the food packs would provide relief and help reduce the financial burden of feeding their families.
Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank is one of Fidelity Bank’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focused on addressing hunger and malnutrition among vulnerable communities.
The programme has, since inception, distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
