Policemen from Ogun State Command have arrested three suspected members of Eiye Confraternity, for allegedly threatening to kill one Teslim Lateef, if he should refuse to be initiated into their cult group.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday, January 28, 2021.
They were identified as Olajide Shittu (32), Emmanuel Fidelis (29) and Sunkanmi Ifelodun (39).
According to the state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Lateef reported at Ajuwon police station that the three suspects had been threatening to kill him for quite some time, over his refusal to be initiated into Eiye confraternity.
The PPRO said that the complainant disclosed further that the cultists vowed to eliminate him to avoid their being exposed by him as members of a cult group.
Oyeyemi added that the the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ajuwon division, SP Andrew Akinseye, who had been monitoring the suspects, led his men to the cultists’ hideout, from where the suspects were apprehended.
“They have all confessed to being members of Eiye cult group, and confirmed that they were trying to recruit more members into their fold,” the PPRO stated.
He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, for discreet investigation.
Oyeyemi stated further that the CP warned cultists in the state to make use of the opportunity given to them by the command to renounce their membership of the unlawful groups, to avoid the long arm of the law catching them.
