Four persons accused of internet fraud bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and impersonation, was on Friday, November 5, 2021, convicted by Justice Sherifat Adeyemi of the Oyo State High Court 12, sitting in Ibadan.
The convicts were Adekanbi Babatunde Aliu, Agoba Monday Fred, Oyetunji Salam Korede (a.k.a Yessenia E. Delgado) and Ogbonna Friday.
The charges brought against them are contrary to section 419 and 484 of the Criminal Code law Cap 38, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
They had pleaded guilty to their respective amended one count charge, and based on their pleas, prosecution counsel, Murtala Usman, Abdulrasheed Lanre Suleman and Marbas Mabur prayed the court to convict and sentence them.
The court consequently convicted them as charged and sentenced Adekanbi to six months imprisonment.
Agoba and Ogbonna were convicted and sentenced to five months in prison each while Oyetunji bagged one month jail term.
Ogbonna was ordered by the court to restitute $1,200 to his victim, David Govann, through EFCC. He would also forfeit the sum of N259,914.62k in his bank account and one iPhone 12 pro max mobile phone to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Oyetunji was ordered by the court to restitute $2,550, being the money he benefited from his crime, to the federal government. He would also to forfeit a Toyota Camry, Macbook Air Laptop and one iPhone 12 Promax mobile phone.
Agoba was ordered to restitute $1,300 to his victim, Larie Maynard, through the EFCC.
The convict was also ordered to forfeit N115,923.37k domiciled in his bank account to the federal government through the EFCC.
Adekanbi was ordered to restitute $200 to his victim, one Elisha Billie, through the federal government and also forfeit N917,381.86k domiciled in his bank account to the federal government.
The convict would further forfeit one iPhone XR mobile phone and one Apple iwatch to the federal government.
