Supremacy battle between members Aiye and Eiye cult groups on Saturday, July 17, 2021, led to the arrest of four suspected members by operatives of Ogun State Police Command.

Thenewsbearer learnt that the battle and the subsequent arrest of the suspects occurred at Atan Ota area of the state.

The suspects were identified as Olusegun Owoola (26), Gbenga Akinkade (34), Jinadu Waliu (30) and Sanni Hammed (27).

Giving an insight to the arrest, the command’s police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement on Sunday, July 18, that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Atan Ota division, CSP Abolade Oladigbolu had received a call at about 4am that the two groups were involved in a clash at Hotel Road area, Atan Ota, with sporadic shots reverberating.

This, the PPRO said, led the DPO to send his men to the scene where they met the two groups engaged in fierce gun battle.

He stated further that this made the police operatives to counter the hoodlums’ moves against one another, adding that they were able to subdue them and arrest four among them.

Recovered from the suspects were a locally-made pistol, three live cartridges, two knives, iron rod and assorted criminal charms.

Oyeyemi said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to anti- cultism section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police also warned that the command will not tolerate any act of brigandage and hooliganism, and will do everything within the law to eradicate it,” the PPRO said.
