May 2, 2026: Suspected gunmen have attacked a police facility in Kwara State, killing three officers in a fresh wave of violence in the area.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday in the Tenebo community, located in Kaiama Local Government Area.
According to reports, the attackers stormed a Police Mobile Force camp, opening fire on officers on duty.
Residents said the assault was marked by heavy gunfire, which caused panic as people fled their homes to seek safety.
Security sources confirmed that at least three mobile police officers were killed during the нападение, while others sustained injuries.
The attackers were said to have arrived in large numbers and overpowered the security personnel before escaping.
The latest incident adds to a series of violent attacks in Kaiama and surrounding communities in recent weeks, raising concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of the state.
Meanwhile, the state police command has confirmed the attack.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, expressed shock and deep sorrow over the incident, which claimed the lives of three police officers and left several others critically injured.
The police described the assault as “heinous and cowardly,” noting that the slain officers died in the line of duty while defending the safety and security of their communities.
The Command stated that their sacrifice would not be forgotten.
The Command also extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers, while wishing the injured personnel a speedy recovery as they receive medical treatment.
Ojo assured the public that the Command would deploy all available operational, intelligence, and tactical resources to track down those responsible for the attack.
“There will be no hiding place for the perpetrators of this barbaric act,” the statement said.
