Gunmen have abducted a 60-year-old headmaster, Mr. Matthew Kolawole Owoade, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release.
Owoade, who serves as the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, was reportedly seized on Saturday evening while returning home from his farm.
According to family sources, the incident occurred between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. when the assailants intercepted him and whisked him away to an unknown location.
A family member said the kidnappers later established contact and demanded N30 million before the victim could regain his freedom.
The development has heightened concerns among residents over the growing insecurity in parts of the state.
Community members have appealed to security agencies and the Oyo State government to intensify efforts to secure the headmaster’s safe release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The latest abduction comes amid persistent concerns over kidnapping and related security challenges in Oyo State and other parts of the country.
Recent incidents involving the abduction of pupils and teachers in parts of the state have further underscored fears over safety in rural communities.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not released an official statement on the incident, while efforts to rescue the victim were said to be ongoing.
