Gunmen numbering about 10, who abducted four farmers in Ikosu-Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, in the evening of Monday, July 5, 2021, have demanded N50 million as ransom before their release.
The gunmen struck again barely a week after the traditional ruler of Eda-Ile Ekiti, in Ekiti East Local Government Area of the state, Oba Benjamin Osho, was abducted and released after the family coughed out N2 million to secure his freedom.
Thenewsbearer gathered that the farmers were abducted while on the farm, located inside a settlement in the community.
They had immediately moved the victims to the forest, it was learnt.
A source said the abductors shot sporadically before taking the four farmers into the bush, adding that they called early on Tuesday to demand N50 million as ransom.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Sunday Abutu confirmed the abduction, saying that the Commissioner of Police, Tunde Mobayo had deployed operatives to the area to comb the bush and work towards securing the release of the victims.
The PPRO assured that all would be done to rescue the victims unhurt, while he urged residents not to panic but go about their lawful businesses.
