A 43-year-old housewife, Bisola Awodele, is cooling her heels in police detention at Ogun State Police Command, after bathing her husband, Peter Philips, with hot water over his drunkenness.

The woman was arrested on March 8, 2021, after the husband ran to Sango Ota Area Command with burns all over his body, with a report that his wife, a mother of five, accused him of always getting drunk.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Sunday, March 24, Philips told the police that his wife picked a pot containing already boiled water, and poured it on his body.

The PPRO said that the man’s report, as he writhed in agony, made the Area Commander, ACP Muhideen Obe, to quickly direct JWC section to go for the arrest of the woman.

He added that the team moved to the scene where the suspect was promptly apprehended.

“During interrogation, the suspect explained to the police on how her husband was fond of coming home drunk always, without contributing anything to the children’s welfare and hers.

“She stated further that on that fateful day, her husband came home drunk as usual, and while she was complaining about his act of drunkenness, the man started insulting her and her parents.

“She added that her husband’s insulting words infuriated her, causing her to pour hot water on him,” Oyeyemi said.

The police spokesman went further to say that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect gave birth to a baby about eight months ago, which she allegedly killed and secretly buried out of frustration.

The PPRO added that the investigating team had gone with the woman to the spot where she buried the baby, and exhumed the remains.

He said that the husband had been taken to the General Hospital, Ota, where he was being treated medically and recuperating.

He remarked that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran in Abeokuta, for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
