A 40-year-old man, Michael Salako, has been arrested by detectives in Ogun State Police Command for allegedly beating a motorcyclist to death.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Lafenwa area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the Divisional Police Officer at Lafenwa divisional headquarters, CSP Samuel Aladegoroye and his men moved to Sanni Street, Lafenwa, after receiving a call at about 12 noon that a bike rider had been beaten to death in the area by Salako, prompting his arrest.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Sunday, August 1, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that when the suspect was interrogated, he claimed to have known the bike man in their community, telling the police that he asked the deceased to take him somewhere with his motorcycle the previous day and he refused.
He stated further that when he saw him on the day he was killed, he was trying to ask him his reason for refusing to take him out the previous day, but it led to a fight between them.
The suspect added that it was during the fight that the bike rider slumped and died.
The PPRO said that the corpse of the victim, simply identified as Abudu, had been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.
He stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had directed the suspect’s transfer to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
