‎ISWAP finance chief surrenders to troops in Borno ‎

‎A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State, in what the military described as a significant breakthrough in ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

‎The Nigerian Army said the insurgent surrendered to soldiers of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25 along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis of the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route in Borno State.

‎In a statement issued on Saturday, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, said preliminary profiling identified the surrendered insurgent as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram.
‎
‎According to Goni, the suspect was responsible for managing the group’s finances and logistics before deciding to surrender. He arrived with two male children.
‎
‎The military attributed the surrender to sustained land and air offensives against terrorist hideouts across the North-East, noting that intensified kinetic and intelligence-led operations had continued to weaken insurgent networks.

‎Goni said the latest development was part of a growing trend of defections among terrorists and their family members, revealing that about 46 insurgents and relatives had voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days.

‎He added that the decision by the finance operative to lay down his arms followed a series of coordinated military offensives that had disrupted terrorist activities and reduced their operational capabilities.

‎The surrender comes amid intensified efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to dismantle insurgent strongholds and encourage defections through sustained military pressure across the region.
