Ibadan, June 3, 2026 — The family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and a leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons, Peter and Paul.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Chief Adelabu’s Media Aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the victims were kidnapped by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school in Ibadan.
The abductors reportedly seized the 43-year-old mother and her 12-year-old twin sons during the attack and whisked them away to an undisclosed location.
Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.
Before her voluntary retirement last year, she served at the Central Bank of Nigeria and later at First Bank Pension Custodian.
Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.
The family disclosed that security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified of the incident and have since commenced investigations.
”Security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime,” the statement said.
Chief Adelabu and members of the family expressed deep concern over the incident but maintained confidence in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims.
The family also appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could hinder ongoing security operations.
They further called on anyone with useful information that could aid the investigation to promptly report such details to the appropriate authorities.
The family assured the public of its continued cooperation with security agencies and pledged to provide updates as developments unfold.
The statement was signed by Comrade Femi Awogboro, Media Aide to Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on June 3, 2026.
