The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu has appealed to the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) to assist the command in improving its standard operating procedure, for better service delivery.
Odumosu made the appeal on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the UNDSS, in his Ikeja office.
According to a statement by the state police image-maker, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Commissioner of Police, who was supported by his management team, deliberated on germane security issues in the state, and the way forward.
In his remarks during the visit, the head of the delegation, who is the Chief of Security, Information and Operation Center UNDSS, Mr Chiza Nkhowawi, commended Odumosu and his team for their relentless efforts in policing Lagos State, despite its size, as well as the demographic and geographical nature.
Mr Nkhowawi, who was accompanied by the Security Information Analyst, UNDSS, Mr Mohammed Brima; and the Local Security Associate, UNDSS, John Adefoye promised to partner with the command in many areas, especially on training and retraining, sharing of information and capacity building.
In another development, the Commissioner of Police addressed officers and men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the command, on the need to sanitise and restructure the squad, which is regarded as the biting teeth of the Command.
This, the police commissioner said, would engender better service delivery and efficiency.
The police boss was accompanied to the RRS parade ground, Alausa, by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Ahmed Kontangora; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jide Agboola; ACP Operations, Dotun Odubona; the PPRO, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi and CSP Operations, Shittu Aka.
Adejobi said that the briefing was as a result of the plans of the Commissioner of Police to reposition sections, units and squads of the command, so as to make them more effective and productive, with a view to discharging police duties as expected and required.
Commending the officers and men of RRS for their commitment to duties and quick response to distress calls from the general public, Odumosu encouraged them to improve on their services, which had been paying off, and were being appreciated by the government and people of the state.
He further assured them that the Governor of Lagos, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, would do the needful to revitalize he squad.
To boost their morale, so that they would perform their duties beyond expectation, Odumosu also addressed the issue of welfare of the personnel.
In his bid to actualise his strategic plans, the state police boss ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Ahmed Kontangora, to inject fresh blood and agile men into the squad, while those who had spent more than five years in the squad should be redeployed to other formations.
