An Associate Professor at the Department of History and International Studies, Federal University of Lafia, Dr. Fred Ekpa Ayokhai, and his daughter, Emmanuela Ekpa Ayokhai, have been arrested by Nasarawa State Police Command in connection with a viral tweet of an assault on a female teenager in Lafia.
The command’s image maker, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who stated this in a tweet on Saturday, October 22, said that a Ford SUV belonging to Dr Ayokhai which was used to convey the teenager to a location along Kwandere Road, Lafia, where she was assaulted, had been recovered.
The viral video showed the Associate Professor, joined by a young man, said to be his son, hitting the teenager with a big plank, which made her break out in a scream.
The lecturer was said to have also used a pair of scissors to cut the victim’s dress in the viral video.
According to DSP Nansel, “preliminary investigation revealed that Emmanuela Ekpa Ayokhai and the victim had a misunderstanding over a man named IG.
“The victim accused Emmanuela of snatching her supposed boyfriend and assaulted her. In retaliation, Emmanuela mobilised her family, went after the victim and got her assaulted as well.”
He stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, AIG Adesina Soyemi, has ordered an intensive manhunt for the other fleeing suspects and further directed that those arrested should be charged to court for prosecution after the conclusion of investigation at the State Criminal Department, Lafia.
