Strange and bizarre, but real. This was what manifested as a 35-year-old man, Eluyera Wasiu, in connivance with an accomplice, Adeniyi Samuel planned to kill his 29-year-old pregnant wife, Taiwo Bola, before they were arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command.
Providence reportedly acted on behalf of the targeted lady when the two suspects had a brawl at Oponuwa area of Ogijo Town on Saturday, January 1, 2022, prompting members of the public to alert the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Mohammed Suleiman Baba, in order to prevent bloodshed.
Confirming the arrest on Monday, January 3, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the call made the DPO to send his men to the scene, where the two suspects were apprehended.
According to the PPRO, “it was during interrogation to know the cause of the fight that Adeniyi Samuel opened up and informed the police that Eluyera Wasiu contracted him to kill his pregnant wife, Bola.
“He stated further that Wasiu promised to give him N10,000 for the job, out of which he had already paid him N5,000, with the promise to pay the balance on completion of the job.”
Oyeyemi stated further that preliminary investigation revealed that Wasiu was married to Bola, but they got separated due to irreconcilable differences.
“Wasiu later got married to another woman who is presently living with him. But somehow, he met his former wife again and they started going out together, which resulted in pregnancy.
“In order not to upset his new wife, Wasiu asked Bola to terminate the pregnancy, a suggestion that was rejected by her.
“Having tried all he could to get the pregnancy aborted the pregnancy, Wasiu decided to eliminate the woman and the pregnancy,” the police spokesman said.
Wasiu was said to have made a sordid revelation in his statement that he had twice bought food for his pregnant wife from an eatery and laced it with poison, but the lady, by providence, did not eat the food.
It was when all efforts to kill Bola failed that Wasiu reportedly contracted Adeniyi to help him eliminate her.
Wasiu further confessed that he was the one personally took Adeniyi to the wife’s house and he gave him her picture for easy identification.
However, when Wasiu felt that hired hand didn’t carry out the assignment as agreed, he demanded for the refund of the advance payment he made to him, which refusal led to the fight that brought about their arrest and subsequent exposure.
DSP Abimbola said that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered a full scale investigation of the case, after which the suspects would be arraigned in court.
