A 51-year-old man, Oluranti Badejo, has been arrested by Ogun State Police Command for strangling his 40-year-old wife, Folasade, to death.
The incident occurred at 7, Madam Felicia Street, Orimerunmu, Mowe Town on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this on Thursday, October 13, said that the killing was reported at Mowe divisional headquarters by the younger sister of the deceased.
According to the PPRO, the deceased’s sister told the police that she got the information from her sister’s daughter that her father had killed her mother.
Oyeyemi stated further that this made the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, to quickly dispatch detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the lifeless body of the victim was evacuated to a mortuary in Sagamu Town for post mortem examination.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of a minor disagreement.
“Having realized that he had killed his wife, the suspect used hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, so as to make it look as if she was electrocuted.
“Unfortunately for him, their eight-year-old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing.
“It was the daughter who testified to seeing her father strangulating the mother to death,” the police spokesman explained.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the suspect be taken to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
