An angry mob went berserk on Monday, December 28, 2020, setting ablaze two persons at ASAS Hotel area of Molete, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred at about 9am.
One other person was however rescued by Amotekun team, and handed over to the police.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the third person was chased to Oke Ado area before being rescued by Amotekun Corps.
A credible source which craved anonymity said that the rescued man was accused of an attempt to steal a phone.
However, Thenewsbearer learnt that no one had come forward to verify the claim of attempted stolen phone.
After his rescue by Amotekun, he was taken to Orita Challenge police station by the Corps.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State Police Command, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, the rescued person was treated at Police Hospital at Eleyele, Ibadan.
Though details of what led to the mob action on the burnt persons were sketchy, the PPRO said that the command had commenced an investigation into the cause of the incident.
Condemning the mob’s action, which he described as ‘jungle justice’, Fadeyi noted that it had become a recurring move in the state.
“When allowed to continue unabated, it will degenerate into what all and sundry will not be able to curb thereafter, and many innocent lives will be terminated unjustly. “Consequent upon this, the Commissioner of Police, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu warms those taking laws into their hands to stop forthwith, before the long hand of the law catches up with them,” the PPRO said further.
