Popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has reportedly died at the age of 40, throwing Nigeria’s entertainment industry into mourning.
According to reports published on Tuesday, news of the actor’s death was confirmed by several of his colleagues and close associates, including actress Funke Akindele and actor Bolanle Ninalowo.
Tributes have continued to pour in across social media as fans and celebrities react to the shocking development.
In an emotional tribute shared online, Akindele expressed regret over not being able to see Ekubo one last time, describing him as a cherished friend whose memory would remain unforgettable.
Ninalowo also mourned the late actor, praying for strength for his family and loved ones.
Ekubo, known for his roles in several Nollywood blockbusters and romantic dramas, had recently sparked concern among fans following a prolonged absence from social media and a public appearance in which he appeared noticeably slimmer.
Reports indicate that the actor had allegedly been battling cancer prior to his death.
Born on April 10, 1986, the actor rose to prominence after emerging as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition.
Over the years, he built a successful acting career, featuring in numerous films and television productions that earned him widespread recognition in the Nigerian movie industry.
