For acts of gross misconduct, disobedience to lawful order, and assault on a member of the public, the Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a police corporal, Opeyemi Kadiri, with Force Number 509745 and attached to Dolphin Divisional Headquarters, Lagos Police Command.
The corporal’s acts, which led to his dismissal on Friday, August 12, 2022, was captured in a viral video on Wednesday, August 3.
The dismissed officer, who enlisted in the Force on December 6, 2016, was caught searching a commuter’s phone by the roadside, contrary to the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, to police officers to desist from doing so.
Corporal Kadiri was also seen in the video assaulting the commuter who attempted to bring the order to his notice.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who spoke on the dismissal on behalf of the IGP, said that it became effective from August 12.
“The Police (Force) hereby calls on officers and men of the Force to maintain professionalism and civility to members of the public in the discharge of their duties in line with extant laws.
“The Force equally calls on members of the public to ensure proper conduct in all encounters with police officers to avoid infractions which may be subject to prosecution,” the FPRO said.
