A man, Eyo Eta, who was fleeing with the vehicle of his boss, has been arrested policemen from Ogun State Command.
Eta, a resident of 78, Iju Road, Ifako, Agege, Lagos State, was caught by men of Federal Highway Patrol at about 9:30p.m., at Imeri Junction, Ijebu Imushin, while heading towards Benin City in Edo State.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on February 24, described the vehicle of the driver’s boss as a Toyota Highlander SUV, with registration number APP 467 GS.
Oyeyemi said that when the driver was stopped by police personnel on the highway, he could not give satisfactory answers to all the questions posed to him, leading to his being taken to police station for more questioning.
According to the PPRO, “it was at the (police) station that he confessed to taking the car away to Benin City, unknown to the owner of the car.”
He said that the disclosure made the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ijebu Imushin Division, CSP Hillary Simire, to call the owner of the vehicle.
Identifying himself simply as Omopariola, the owner had explained to the police on phone that the driver ran away with the vehicle from Lagos, which made him to report the case to the police in the state of aquatic splendor.
The police spokesman added that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation, as directed by the state Commissioner of Police, Edward A. Ajogun.
