A suspected serial killer, Suleiman Ganiyu, who is also a member of Eiye Confraternity, and had been declared wanted by Ogun State Police Command, was on Sunday, March 14, 2021, nabbed police operatives.
It was gathered by Thenewsbearer that the suspect was arrested after invading the premises of Itamerin Comprehensive High School, Ago-Iwoye, where he started shooting sporadically.
He was said to have come to the school to avenge the beating of his younger brother, who was a student in the school.
Speaking on the arrest through a statement on Wednesday, March 17, the the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that when the school authorities made a call to the police at Ago Iwoye, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Paul Omiwole led his patrol team to the school.
However, the PPRO said that the suspect had fled before the arrival of the police.
Unfortunately for him, he was traced to his hideout at Imosan Street, Oru-Ijebu, where he was apprehended.
Oyeyemi said that when interrogated, the suspect confessed to being a leading member of Eiye confraternity.
“He confessed further that he was the one who killed one Awokale Olusegun a.k.a Lala on February 27, 2020, over a supremacy battle.
“This led to his being declared wanted by the police,” the PPRO stated.
He added that the suspect also confessed to being responsible for the death of one “Babasco” and one Dapo at Ijebu-Igbo in 2015, during a clash between his group, Eiye Confraternity, and Aiye cult group.
“Further investigations revealed that the suspect was the brain behind a series of violent cult-related clashes in Ago-Iwoye, Awa-Ijebu, Oru-Ijebu, Ilaponu and Ijebu-Igbo in the recent past,” the police spokesman stated further.
He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.
