The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa, arresting three students aged 12, 18 and 18 and recovering weapons and other items allegedly linked to the planned activity.
The suspects were arrested following intelligence about a planned cult-related gathering tagged “Kito Day”, reportedly involving students from different secondary schools in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement that the operation was carried out on October 22, 2026, after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Owode-Yewa received information about the planned activity.
The DPO promptly deployed detectives, working in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, to the scene, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
Items recovered during the operation included an English axe, two knives, a short cutlass, a rubber toy gun and a school bag.
The police said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
