Suspected armed robbers, in the early hours of Saturday, May 15, 2021, engaged men of Ogun state police command in gun battle at Ipamesan area of Sango Ota, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.
Making this known in a statement on Sunday, May 16, 2021, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Sango Ota police station, received a distress call that robbers were operating at Ipamesan area, and had already burgled a warehouse in the area.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the robbers,who had snatched two vehicles from different locations, took to flight, but were hotly chased by the policemen.
“On getting to Joju area, and realising the determination of the patrol team to subdue them, they decided to engage the policemen in gun battle.
“But due to the superior firepower of the policemen, they abandoned the two robbed vehicles, a Lexus RX 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW, snatched from one Dosumu Kazeem, and a Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW snatched from one Ibrahim Lateef, and took to their heels.
“However, the team pursued them, and
one of the robbers, later identified as Henry Obe, was arrested in the process. It was later discovered, that the hoodlums had shot a guard attached to a warehouse owned by one Yinka Oduwale, before breaking into the said warehouse and looting it. The guard was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” the PPRO explained.
Items recovered from the suspect were a long gun, 41 laptops, 2DVD players, 2 phones, 3 tablets gadgets, one Lexus RX 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW and Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW.
Oyeyemi stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
Ajogun also directed crack detectives, to go after the remaining members of the gang, with the view of bringing them to justice within the shortest possible period.
