Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a robbery attack on a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro, arresting two suspects and recovering 11 assorted iPhones, an HP laptop and other stolen items.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement on Wednesday, September 16, said that the suspects, identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun, were arrested after police responded to a distress call at about 2:40am on September 13, 2026, reporting that armed robbers were attacking students in a hostel within the community.
The PPRO said that the Divisional Police Officer, Ewekoro Division, immediately mobilised operatives to the scene, and on sighting the police, the suspected robbers abandoned a school bag containing their loot and attempted to escape.
The operatives gave chase and succeeded in arresting the two suspects, while other members of the gang fled the scene.
A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of 11 assorted iPhones, one HP laptop and various items of clothing. The victims have since identified the recovered properties as belonging to them.
Preliminary investigation also revealed that the gang allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer ₦200,000 into an account during the robbery.
Detectives have visited and documented the crime scene, including evidence of forced entry, while the recovered exhibits have been secured. Search warrants executed at the suspects’ residences did not yield additional incriminating items.
The suspects and recovered exhibits are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution, Babaseyi stated.
The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang and trace the owner of the beneficiary account into which the ₦200,000 was allegedly transferred.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, who commended the Ewekoro operatives for their vigilance and prompt response, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting students, residents and communities across the state.
He urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities.
