Three suspected robbers who engaged in snatching motorcycles from their owners have been arrested by Ogun State Police Command.
The suspects, whose names were given as Daniel Akapo, 27; Idowu Ajao Sunday, 20; and Dare Olusegun, 24; were apprehended in Ago Iwoye on Monday, December 5, 2022, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi.
Thenewsbearer learnt that two of the suspects, pretending to be passengers, waved down a motorcyclist, one Shefiu Moshood, and asked him to take them to Oke Erigba village.
They were said to have suddenly stopped the bike man along the road, telling him that they were not going to the aforementioned destination.
Pretending as if they wanted to give him the transport fare, the two suspects were said to have brought out ground pepper and robbed it in the bike rider’s eyes to put him in discomfort while they would take his motorcycle away.
The PPRO said that while the motorcyclist was struggling with them, a battle axe fell down from the suspects’ bag, which the victim picked to attack them in saving himself.
While the struggling was going on, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ago Iwoye division, SP Noah Adekanye, arrived at the scene with his men and some OPC men.
“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but they were hotly chased and the duo of Daniel Akapo and Idowu Ajao Sunday were apprehended.
“On interrogation, they confessed to the commission of the crime, and they informed the police that it was one Dare Olusegun who asked them to go and snatch motorcycle, with the promise that he would help them to sell it somewhere in Ibadan.
“Their confession led to the arrest of the said Dare Olusegun, who also corroborated the statement of the two arrested suspects,” the PPRO stated.
The state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
