Tensions soared in parts of Ogun State after a commercial motorcycle rider, was allegedly stabbed to death during a dispute over a ₦100 transport ticket on Tuesday night, February 2, 2026.
‎
‎According to residents and fellow riders, the incident occurred in the Ijoko area of the Agbado–Sango axis when a disagreement between the deceased and members of a transport union’s tax collection group, locally referred to as agberos, escalated into violence.
‎
‎Eyewitnesses said the dispute began over the payment of a ₦100 ticket and quickly turned physical.
‎
‎Two people were reportedly stabbed, with only one surviving the attack. One rider, who identified himself only as Rasheed, said the deceased was a colleague from Nasarawa State.
‎
‎Following the killing, commercial motorcyclists staged protests across Lambe, Agbado and Akute communities on Wednesday, disrupting transport services and forcing many commuters to walk to their destinations.
‎
‎Another rider, Ganiyu, told reporters that tensions remained high as colleagues of the victim refused to work in protest. “The man was stabbed to death by one of the agberos during an argument over the ticket. The agbero suddenly brought out a knife and stabbed him,” he said.
‎
‎A senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly, confirmed the incident and clarified that it occurred in Ijoko.
‎
‎He said officers have been deployed to calm nerves and manage the protests.
‎
‎As of Thursday, the Ogun State Police Command had not issued an official statement and it remained unclear if any arrests had been made.
‎
‎This is not the first time disputes involving ticket levies and commercial riders have erupted in the state.
‎
‎Similar clashes in recent years have sometimes led to public unrest and confrontations between riders and transport officials.
