The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has directed troops of the 321 Artillery Regiment in Iseyin, Oyo State, to remain alert and take decisive action against security threats, particularly around the Old Oyo National Park.
Mahmuda gave the directive during his maiden operational visit to the regiment’s temporary location on Saturday, October 17, where he charged the troops to prevent criminal elements from gaining a foothold in their Area of Responsibility.
The GOC highlighted the security challenges confronting the area, stressing the need for the troops to adopt appropriate operational measures to protect lives and property while maintaining a high level of vigilance.
He also urged the soldiers to uphold professional standards in carrying out their duties and ensure that their operations contribute to the overall security objectives of the Nigerian Army.
Mahmuda commended the Chief of Army Staff for expanding the Nigerian Army, noting that the establishment of additional formations would enhance the military’s capacity to respond to evolving security challenges.
In a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the GOC further charged the personnel of the newly established regiment to perform their artillery responsibilities effectively and sustain cordial relations with their host community.
The visit, according to Danjuma’s statement, reflected the GOC’s commitment to ensuring that newly established formations and units under his command settle down quickly and carry out their assigned duties effectively.
The statement added that the visit also enabled Mahmuda to interact with troops deployed to different locations across the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
