The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, codenamed So-Safe Corps, has arrested a motorist, Kehinde Ogunlate, and his suspected accomplices allegedly involved in robbing passengers of their belongings in Abeokuta.
According to a statement by the So-Safe spokesman, Moruf Yusuf, on behalf of the Commander, Soji Ganzallo, it was said that on Friday, August 25, 2023, the Corps’ personnel on routine patrol git information that one of the drivers that had been robbing passengers on Abeokuta township roads with his gang members were sighted in an area.
The PRO revealed that after Ganzallo directed the officers to go after them, they immediately traced the culprits, discovering that they had just robbed some passengers of their belongings.
The statement read further that Ogunlate and Yemi Ayoola used the taxi to rob passengers, collected their phones, while the robbed items from passengers such as phones were handed over to Ogunlate, to be taken to the receiver, Olonade Dele.
The Commander, Ganzallo, listed suspected gang members apprehended at Itoko, Ita-Morin, Adedotun Area of Abeokuta as Taoreed Adeosun, Adeosun Funmilayo, Ayoola Yemi, Ogunlate Kehinde and Olonade Dele.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their robbery operations, disclosing that they usually drove the victims to a far place to make the members’ escape easy after successful outings.
They also established that Funmilayo Adeosun picked one of the stolen phones from her husband called Taoreed and sold it to an untraceable buyer.
Exhibits recovered from them included a taxi car, 16 memory cards and phones.
It was learnt that the suspects and the exhibits had been transfered to the SWAT Squad of Ogun State Police Command in Magbon area, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
