Four persons who were suspected to have been connected with the attack at Igama village, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State on June 12, 2022, were arrested by the police, with one of them succumbing to death as a result of gunshot injuries.
The suspects were identified as Umar Nuhu, Dauda Alhaji, Musa Dako and Umaru Alhaji Sale.
Dako, who was the one that sustained injuries during an exchange of gunfire with the police, was admitted at St. Mary’s Hospital, Okpoga for treatment where he died as he was being treated of his wounds.
Disclosing this in a statement on Thursday, June 16, the state command’s spokeswoman, SP Catherine Anene said that the police teams deployed to the area in collaboration with other security agents were in a search operation within the forest when on June 15, at about 5am, the attackers who were trapped in the bush engaged them in a gun duel.
The police operatives reportedly overpowered the attackers, leading to the arrest of the four where they hid.
The PPRO stated further that the corpse of the dead suspect had been deposited in a morgue at the same hospital while the three others were in custody for further investigation.
In his comment, the state Commissioner of Police, Wale Abbas, advised residents in Igama community to remain calm and give useful information to the police for necessary action.
