The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime with the arrest of 43 suspects during a major raid on a notorious criminal hideout in Isheri-Olofin, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, bringing the total number of suspects prosecuted under Operation Kosaye to 76.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, followed credible intelligence that the location had become a hub for cultism, drug abuse, prostitution and other criminal activities.
Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the raid led to the arrest of 28 male and 15 female suspects.
Exhibits recovered included substances suspected to be cannabis sativa and ‘Canadian Loud,’ 10 mobile phones, four power banks, a rechargeable hand fan, and a cross-body bag containing two ATM cards and a National Identity Card.
According to the Command, all 43 suspects have been charged to court and remanded in a correctional facility over offences including criminal conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society, unlawful assembly, breach of public peace, possession and use of suspected cannabis, prostitution, operating an unlicensed brothel, and related offences.
The police disclosed that some of the suspects are providing useful information to investigators, while follow-up operations are underway to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the SWAT operatives for their professionalism and reiterated that criminal hideouts, drug joints, cult enclaves and brothels used as covers for crime would continue to be identified and dismantled across the state.
He urged residents to support the police with timely and credible information, assuring them of the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the protection of lives and property.
