Three suspected ritual killers have been apprehended by Osun State Police Command as they were found with a human heart said to be that of their friend.
Confirming this in a statement on Saturday, April 16, 2022, the command’s police spokeswoman, SP Yemisi Opalola, gave the names of the suspects as Olayade Kehinde (25), Olufemi Oriyomi (21) and Raimi Sheriff (21).
According to the PPRO, the suspects were arrested on April 7 at about 11am during a stop-and-search duty by police detectives along Osogbo-OAU Ife Campus Road, while they were on a motorcycle.
They were said to have been flagged to a stop but rather than doing that, they sped off.
The detectives however pursued and apprehended at Safejo area of Ile-Ife.
SP Opalola stated that during a search, a human heart and various criminal charms were found on them.
They had confessed that the heart belonged to a friend of theirs.
The PPRO further made it known that as discreet investigation was ongoing, one of the suspects, Oriyomi, fell sick and was taken to hospital for treatment but died while on admission.
Saying that the corpse had been deposited at State Hospital, Osogbo, for autopsy, she added that the two other suspects would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigation.
In his comments , the state Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, said that his command would continue to make efforts to sanitize the state from incessant ritual killings and other vices.
He advised parents to monitor their children, and warn them against fraternizing with bad elements.
Olokode also admonished youths to always engage in lawful business and shun the ‘get rich quick’ syndrome that would jeopardize their future.
