The Osun State Police Command has deployed tactical teams to the Oke-Baale area of Osogbo following recent cult-related clashes that left three persons shot, two of them dead.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, made this known in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, on Sunday, October 4.
According to the PPRO, a cult clash occurred around Owo-Eba, Osogbo, on October 2, 2026, during which two persons identified as Adebayo Taoreed, aka “Small Rugged”, and Oluwaseyi Daniel, aka “OSHA”, were shot dead, while others sustained gunshot injuries.
Ojelabi added that suspected cultists invaded the Arowomole area of Osogbo on October 4, shooting one Rasak Wahab, aka “Ojo Iku”.
He said Wahab was promptly evacuated to a hospital and is responding to treatment.
Following the incidents, CP Zungura directed all tactical teams in the command to relocate to Oke-Baale and remain there until normalcy is fully restored.
The tactical teams were directed to conduct intelligence-led raids and operations, targeting identified cult members, criminal hideouts and other locations linked to criminal activities.
The Police spokesman said the cases had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
He added that Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders had also been directed to intensify patrols, gather actionable intelligence and maintain sustained security presence at identified flashpoints across the metropolis.
The Command assured residents that Osogbo remained safe and urged them to go about their lawful activities without fear.
It warned cult groups, their members, sponsors and sympathisers that those involved in cult-related violence, shootings and other criminal activities would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Police also appealed to parents, community leaders and residents to provide credible information on suspicious movements, cult gatherings, criminal hideouts and other activities capable of threatening public peace.
Residents were further urged to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.
