The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State has dissociated itself from the reported attack on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging security agencies to investigate the incident and prosecute anyone found culpable.
The Oyo State APM Presidential Coordinator and Director-General of the party’s Governorship Campaign Council, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, described attempts to link the party to the attack as unfounded.
Adeniran, in a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, was reacting to allegations reportedly made by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation.
He urged the APC to address its internal challenges rather than implicate other political parties in incidents with which they had no connection.
The APM chieftain alleged that the APC had been grappling with internal crises capable of undermining public confidence in the party, advising its leaders to focus on resolving their differences and strengthening their political structure.
He also alleged that the APC had assembled a faction of the proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to support its political activities, insisting that the APM should not be held responsible for incidents involving such groups.
Adeniran called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the reported attack, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable was arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He maintained that the APM was a law-abiding political party committed to democratic principles and peaceful political engagement.
According to him, the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election would be structured, issue-based and focused on presenting credible alternatives to the electorate.
“Our campaign will be driven by ideas, policies and practical solutions to the challenges confronting the people of Oyo State. We have no interest in political violence, intimidation or any activity capable of threatening public peace,” he said.
He added that political contests should be determined by the quality of ideas, the credibility of candidates and the confidence of the electorate rather than violence or the activities of street-level political groups.
“The APM does not support violence in any form. We believe that political contests should be determined by the quality of ideas, the credibility of candidates and the confidence of the electorate, not by violence or the activities of street-level political groups,” Adeniran stated.
He urged political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint, respect the rule of law and refrain from making allegations without verifiable evidence.
Adeniran stressed that all political stakeholders had a responsibility to maintain peace in Oyo State, particularly as activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered momentum.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a peaceful, transparent and issue-driven campaign, saying the welfare, security and development of the people would remain central to its political engagement.
