The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Ayomide Ojo, for allegedly vandalising and stealing house-wiring cables worth about ₦2.69 million in Ogbomoso.
Ojo was arrested at about 5:30 a.m. on September 21, 2026, by operatives of the Monitoring Unit attached to the Ogbomoso Base during an anti-crime patrol along Bosunla Street.
The operatives reportedly accosted the suspect while he was carrying a sack filled with house-wiring cables suspected to have been removed from a building under construction in the town.
During preliminary interrogation, Ojo allegedly confessed to vandalising the cables with an accomplice identified as Warris, who is currently at large.
The suspect reportedly led the police to an uncompleted building opposite Akala House, Ogbomoso, where the cables were allegedly vandalised.
The owner of the property, Salaudeen Rasaq, was contacted by the police and estimated the value of the stolen cables at ₦2,692,000.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest Warris and identify other persons allegedly involved in the criminal chain, particularly those who receive and dispose of vandalised cables.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the command remained committed to protecting public and private infrastructure across the state.
He urged members of the public to provide the police with actionable information on the activities of cable vandals, thieves and receivers of stolen property.
