Police operatives in Oyo State Command, in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante members, are on the trail of gunmen who abducted two victims on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, on Eruwa-Igboora Road.
Thenewsbearer learnt from sources that the operatives, consisting of teams from Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) Monitoring Unit, Skynet, Eruwa Division, as well as the local hunters and vigilante members, went into the bush on Thursday, and had employed intelligence-based technology to comb the forest for the victims.
They were said to have searched to the state boundary with Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
The abductees were ambushed on the road by kidnappers at Opeki Bridge, under Eruwa Division’s jurisdiction, while riding in a Mazda Primacy vehicle.
The gunmen reportedly shot sporadically before whisking their victims off.
Thenewsbearer learnt that policemen discovered the abandoned vehicle, with its ignition working, at about 9pm, while patrolling the road.
They were said to have moved the vehicle to the police station, with the thought that it was probably stolen and abandoned.
However, a reliable source told Thenewsbearer that on Thursday, the kidnappers called the families of their victims through their phones, demanding for an undisclosed amount as ransom.
Though the police spokesman, DSP Adewale Osifeso could not be reached for comments, a source decried the claims in the media that 18 people were, saying that the police never heard or knew of such number as kidnap victims.
The source confirmed police presence in the bush on search-and-rescue mission.
