Oyo State has emerged as Nigeria’s best-performing state in democratic governance, scoring 70 percent in the 2025 Democracy Performance Index, while also retaining its position as the country’s most liveable state.
The Democracy Performance Index, released by the Kimpact Development Initiative and published by StatiSense, ranked Oyo State first nationally, citing its performance in electoral participation, institutional effectiveness, civil liberties and political inclusion.
The latest recognition adds to the state’s achievement in the 2025 Liveability Index by Phillips Consulting, which ranked Oyo as Nigeria’s most liveable state.
The twin recognitions highlight the state’s performance in democratic governance, infrastructure development, security, economic opportunities, healthcare, education and urban planning.
