Detectives in Oyo State Police Command on Sunday, March 21, 2021, arrested three local hunters at Aba Ogbomoso Village in Saki, Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, in connection with the killing of three Fulanis in their settlement, and razing of their huts.
The names of three suspects were given as Karimu Yusuf, Isaac Isaiah and Sunday Isaac, while the deceased were a female and two males.
Thenewsbearer learnt from a credible source that the hunters allegedly carried out reprisal attack after a farmer was killed by suspected Fulanis on Friday, March 12.
It was learnt that Fulani robbers attacked the farmer, dispossessed his wife of N25,000, before killing him.
On Saturday, March 13, another man was said to have been attacked again by the robbers, but narrowly escaped death and got injured. However, none of the indigenes had been able to fish out the farmer’s killers and the attackers of the injured one.
The arrest of the three local hunters was made by police detectives from Saki Division when, about 8am on Sunday, the police got information that a group of hunters, who were involved in the arson and murder, were sighted at Aba Ogbomoso Village.
The source told Thenewsbearer that a single barrel gun with six live cartridges were recovered from one of the hunters.
Thenewsbearer further learnt that during interrogation, one of them, Yusuf, had told the police that it was other local hunters who came from Saki to meet him at Aba Ogbomoso, asking him to follow them to the Fulani settlement where they wanted to vent their anger.
Yusuf claimed to have been reluctant in following the other hunters, but said he was forced to do so.
With others thinking that he might disclose their movement, he said that his gun and phone were collected from him, while he was kept at a distance from where the incident occurred.
He added that his fellows later came back to where he was, claiming that he did not know of any act of arson or killing.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the arrest of the three suspects.
The PPRO said that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigations.
