The Osun State Police Command has commenced investigation into the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Oyeyemi was shot dead on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following an incident around the Energy Filling Station area of Ile-Ife.
The Command, in a statement by its spokesman, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said its attention was initially drawn to an accident at the location, prompting the deployment of operatives to restore normalcy, secure the scene and commence investigation.
Preliminary investigation, however, revealed that Oyeyemi had been shot and subsequently died.
The Command said it was investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing, with a view to establishing the immediate and remote causes of the incident, identifying those responsible and bringing anyone found culpable to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Ibrahim Zungura, condemned the killing and warned individuals and groups against taking the law into their own hands.
He particularly urged residents to shun reprisal attacks, violence, destruction of property and other criminal acts that could further escalate tension in the area.
Zungura called on residents of Ile-Ife and the entire state to remain calm and law-abiding, while urging members of the public with useful information about the incident to cooperate with investigators.
The Commissioner assured the people of Osun State that the Police would deploy all necessary investigative and operational measures to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also expressed condolences to the immediate family, friends and associates of the deceased.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order across the state.
