‎The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three teenage girls in connection with an alleged kidnapping threat reported in Ikoyi-Ile, Oorelope Local Government Area of the state.
‎
‎The arrest followed a complaint received on Friday, January 9, 2026, from a resident, Islamiat Omowumi, who reported that she received a threatening phone call from a private number.
‎
‎According to the police, the caller allegedly threatened to kidnap Omowumi, demanded human parts, and claimed she was being targeted because she is a meat seller.
‎
‎The suspect also reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦10 million, threatening dire consequences if the demand was not met.
‎
‎Acting on the report, detectives of the command launched intelligence-led investigations, which led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Nurudeen Fathia, 17; Fatai Taiwo, 17; and Munirat Saliu, 16. All three suspects are female.
‎
‎A small Itel mobile phone allegedly used to make the threatening call was recovered from the suspects during the operation.
‎
‎The police said that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to making the call, claiming it was intended as a prank.
‎
‎The suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue to fully unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine appropriate legal action in line with the law.
‎
‎Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, commended the Inspector-General of Police for his continuous support and guidance in strengthening security and crime prevention across Oyo State.
‎
‎The command also warned members of the public, particularly youths, against engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic or threats to life, stressing that such actions constitute serious criminal offences with grave legal consequences.
‎
‎The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
‎
‎This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, and made available to journalists on Friday.
