Ibadan, June 5, 2026 — The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists and recovered a cache of weapons, electronic devices, and substances suspected to be hard drugs in a major operation aimed at curbing cult-related activities across the state.
The suspects, identified as Ajala Bukola, 28, and Caleb Adesoye, 24, were arrested on June 3 by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been on the Command’s watchlist due to their alleged involvement in cult-related activities in Ogbomoso and surrounding communities.
During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed to being members of a secret cult group.
Further investigations indicated that they occupy strategic positions within the group’s hierarchy and may be connected to other criminal activities currently under investigation.
Police officers subsequently searched a grey Lexus ES 350 vehicle linked to the suspects and recovered three axes, one cutlass, one hammer, an Apple laptop computer, an HP laptop computer, two iPhones, a Samsung mobile phone, and substances suspected to be hard drugs.
The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators with information aimed at identifying and apprehending other members and associates of the criminal network.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to dismantle the group and bring all those connected with its activities to justice.
Reaffirming its commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes, the Oyo State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies.
The police assured law-abiding citizens that proactive measures to combat crime would be sustained and that individuals involved in activities capable of threatening public peace and safety would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
