Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos State Police Command, arrested two armed robbery suspects in the early hours of Monday, August 9, 2021, along Akowonjo Road, Alimosho.
The arrest, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, was as a result of sustained surveillance and patrols as part of proactive strategies for crime prevention and control around suspected flashpoints and other areas in the state.
The suspects were identified as Samuel Akabueze (31), of 34, Valentine Obasi Street, Idimu Road, and Onuoha Joshua,(37), of 52, Yusuf Street, Ipaja, both in Alimosho area.
It was gathered that the Imo State-born suspects were intercepted while driving a Lexus SUV, with registration number LSD 666 GK, suspiciously along Akowonjo Road.
This, the PPRO said, made the RRS operatives trail them to the point of arrest at Egbeda area.
He stated further that Akabueze and Joshua were suspected to belong to an armed robbery gang responsible for the spate of armed robbery in Gowon Estate, Festac, Lekki and other areas.
Exhibits recovered from them included a locally-made pistol with two rounds of live ammunition, four ATM cards,, charms, BRT cowry card, two keys belonging to another Lexus SUV and a motorcycle.
During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be members of the Aye Confraternity, leading to their transfer to the Special Squad of the Command by the RRS Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, for further investigation, in line with the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
