A five-man armed robbery gang operating at Iperu/Shagamu/Ode Remo area was on Saturday, March 12, 2022 smashed by men of Ogun State Police Command, leading to the arrest of its members.
The suspects were identified as Moruf Abidogun, Usman Adeyemi, Fisayo Aliu, Afeez Adesina and Dauda Lekan.
Making this known on Monday, March 14, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that they were arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, Iperu divisional headquarters, that the hoodlums were operating along Ogere road and dispossessing innocent members of the public of their belongings.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO, SP Waheed Oni, quickly moblised his men in conjunction with the
area command’s anti-robbery team, Sagamu’s anti-robbery team and Ogere’s patrol team, and moved to the scene.
“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums who had already snatched a Toyota Corolla car with registration number GGE 733 FL, took to their heels but were hotly chased by the policemen,” he said, with five of them apprehended.
Oyeyemi said that preliminary investigation revealed the gang as having their base in Lagos State, but used to come to Iperu for operation because one of them is resident in the town.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects included a locally-made pistol and the snatched Toyota Corolla car.
The PPRO added that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
