Operatives in Ogun State Police Command have secured the freedom of three kidnap victims who were abducted on Siun/Ajura Road, in Ogere Remo area of the state.
Making this known on Friday, April 2, 2021, in a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that victims – Jibril Afolabi, Alhaji Amusat Taofeek and Balikis Mohammed – were rescued without any ransom paid.
The PPRO said said that the victims were coming from Ilorin, Kwara State, and heading towards Owode Egbado when their vehicle was blocked at about 3a.m., by gunmen.
He said that the commuters were taken into the bush while other passengers escaped.
Oyeyemi stated further that on getting the report, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, gave directives to the Area Commander in Sagamu, to mobilise operatives from all the divisions within the area to hunt for the kidnappers.
The police commissioner also ordered the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, as well as Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, to move to the scene.
“The entire bush was cordoned and combed thoroughly, with the assistance of hunters, local vigilantes and men of So Safe Corps.
“The heat on them made them to abandon the victims and take to their flight.
“All the victims were there, and then rescued without any ransom paid. They have been escorted to their destination at Owode Egbado,” the PPRO concluded.
