Operatives in Zamfara State Police Command successfully repelled an attack on Fulani settlement in Anka Local Government Area by suspected armed bandits on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, with the recovery of rustled cows.
The bandits reportedly stormed the settlement located at the outskirt of Anka town on Wednesday evening.
The police spokesman of the command, SP Mohammed Shehu, who made this known on Thursday, said that police tactical operatives deployed to Anka Local Government Area were alerted of the invasion by armed bandits, who were in their hundreds, of the Fulani settlement, located at the outskirts of Anka, with intent to attack and rustle cows belonging to the Fulani and settlers.
In response to the report, combined teams of police, in collaboration with the military, mobilised to the scene where they engaged the hoodlums to a gun duel.
“As a result, they escaped into the forest with possible gunshot wounds. All the rustled cows were recovered for the Fulani communities.
“Rigorous confidence-building patrol is being sustained to avert any attempt by the bandits to regroup for another onslaught,” the PPRO stated.
Shehu added that the state Commissioner of Police, Hussaini Rabiu, commended the joint security operatives for their gallantry, urging them to sustain the tempo until lasting peace would be restored in the state.
The police boss further called on the general public to continue to support the command and other security agencies in the current fight against criminal elements.
