Ogun State police command has said that Raheemat Ogunbunmi, the pregnant woman reported to have been kidnapped on her way to the hospital at Ijaye area of Abeokuta last Friday, faked the abduction story.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, said the woman was found in Kwara State with her father following efforts by operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command, who tracked her to Kwara, to rescue her.
Odutola, on her X handle (formerly Twitter), said the woman planned the story to escape the wrath of her husband after suffering another miscarriage following previous ones.
Her husband, Lateef Ogunbunmi, had reported a case of abduction at the Kemta Divisional Police Headquarters following a message he received.
The police spokesperson said: “Rahemat Lateef, who the husband reported abducted, was never abducted. She planned her journey to Kwara State to escape the wrath of her husband because she has remained unlucky due to miscarriages.
“She planned the story and travelled to Kwara State herself, she was not abducted. She had a miscarriage, which made her frustrated due to repeated occurrences of miscarriages.
“She also feared her husband’s reaction, so she orchestrated the script.
“The anti-kidnapping team had started tracking her, until she showed up. She is under medical attention and safe.”
