A legal practitioner and human rights activist, Prof. Zainab Duke Abiola, and her housemaid, Rebecca Enechido, have been arrested by the police for causing grievous bodily harm on a female police officer attached to her, Inspector Teju Moses, over her refusal to carry out unprofessional duties.
This was disclosed by the Force Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
Another domestic staff, a male, is said to be on the run after the assault.
The act made the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, to direct an express prosecution of the arrested suspects who are currently in police custody.
The FPRO said that preliminary investigation showed overwhelming evidence of culpability on the part of the Professor and her domestic staff.
The IGP also tasked the investigative team to ensure that the fleeing suspect is arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.
It was learnt that Prof. Abiola, an Mbaise-born activist, grievously assaulted her orderly in collaboration with some accomplices on Tuesday, September 20, at her residence in Garki, Abuja, due the refusal of the female officer to breach professional ethics by carrying out menial and domestic chores at her house.
CSP Adejobi made clarifications on the suspect dropping the the name of the IGP, his family members and other officers in the top hierarchy of the Nigeria Police Force, saying that she had no acquaintance with the police in any form as erroneously peddled on social media.
Condemning the act, the IGP also ordered the withdrawal of all police personnel attached to the Professor, while he expressed consternation at the fact that an individual who claims to be an advocate of human rights could stoop so low to violate the rights of another individual, not to talk of a police officer tasked with ensuring her protection.
