The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of more than 3,800 senior police officers, including two Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), 10 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs).

The promotions followed the successful completion of promotion examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.

The approvals were granted at the Commission’s plenary meeting held on Thursday in Abuja, under the chairmanship of DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).

Among the officers elevated to the rank of DIG are AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL National Central Bureau, Abuja, and AIG Dankombo F. Morris, who heads Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi.

Adegbite holds degrees in Russian Language and Philology from the University of Lagos and the Pushkin Institute, Moscow, respectively. He is also a recipient of the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) and previously served as Director of Operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Morris, who hails from Gombe State, holds a degree in History from the University of Maiduguri and a Diploma in Police Science. He previously served as Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State.

The Commission also elevated ten Commissioners of Police to the rank of AIG. They include Omosanyin Olusegun, Ogbodo Ugobueze, Ohagwu Felix Ndukwe, Taylor Lennox Olanrewaju, Regina Cosmas Udoette, Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo, Nwogoh Martin, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, Ibrahim D. Gotan and Danjuma I. Yahaya.

Seventeen Deputy Commissioners of Police were also promoted to the rank of Commissioners of Police.

In addition, 85 Assistant Commissioners of Police were elevated to DCPs, while 49 Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted to ACPs.

The promotion exercise further covered 245 Superintendents of Police, who were elevated to CSPs, and 498 Deputy Superintendents of Police, who were promoted to SPs.

Another 3,218 officers were promoted to the rank of DSP.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), urged them to regard their elevation as motivation to improve their performance and commitment to duty.

He charged them to intensify efforts in securing lives and property and strengthening law enforcement, stressing that greater responsibilities and expectations now rest on their shoulders.

In a statement signed by its Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, ANIPR, the Police Service Commission said the promotions were approved at its plenary meeting on October 29, 2026, in Abuja, following the officers’ success in the promotion examinations and oral interviews.
