The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a notorious armed gang allegedly responsible for the killing of two police officers during a stop-and-search operation in Aluu, recovering two AK-47 rifles stolen from the slain officers alongside two other assault rifles.

The breakthrough followed weeks of intensive intelligence gathering and tactical operations launched after the June 29, 2026 attack, in which the officers were ambushed while on duty.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, made this known in a statement, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

Thenewsbearer gathered that one of the officers sustained severe injuries that led to the amputation of his leg before he later died, while both officers’ service AK-47 rifles were carted away by the attackers.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, immediately visited the Aluu Division and ordered the deployment of all operational and intelligence assets of the command to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapons.

Acting on the directive, operatives of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), also known as AKU, arrested three suspects identified as Maduabuchi Emeka, alias “Doctor,” 34, from Egbata Community in Omoku Local Government Area; Chinedu Owhor, 42, from Akabuka, Omoku LGA, but resident in Aluu Community; and Kamachi Joe, 28, also from Egbata Community, Omoku LGA.

Police said exhibits recovered from the suspects include three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle.

Investigators disclosed that the suspects have also linked themselves to other murder cases currently under investigation.

The command said efforts are ongoing to arrest a fourth member of the gang who remains at large.

Commending the operatives for what he described as a courageous and professional operation, CP Adepoju said the arrests underscore the command’s determination to ensure that anyone who attacks police officers or perpetrates violent crimes in Rivers State is brought to justice.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, of protecting lives and property while ensuring criminal elements are relentlessly pursued and prosecuted.

The police commissioner warned criminals to abandon their unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law, stressing that Rivers State would not serve as a refuge for criminals.

He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information capable of assisting security agencies in preventing crime and enhancing public safety across the state.
