An armed robbery suspect, Abiodun Michael, also known as X1, has been apprehended by policemen from Ogun State Command, during a robbery operation in Ilaro town.
Before his arrest on December 22, 2020, the suspect and his gang members had operated on Polytechnic Road in the town.
Police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a press statement that the suspect’s arrest was preceded by a distress call received by the police in Ilaro division, that some robbers had blocked the polytechnic road, and were dispossessing members of the public of their valuables.
“The Divisional Police Officer, Ilaro Division, CSP Olayemi Jacob quickly mobilized his patrol team to the scene.
“On sighting the policemen, the robbers took to their heels, but were chased by policemen, resulting in one of them being apprehended,” the PPRO said.
He added that two cut-to-size locally-made double-barrel pistols, eight live cartridges and assorted criminal charms were recovered from the suspect.
He stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation. The police commissioner also directed that the remaining members of the gang be hunted for and brought to justice.
